5 90s-Inspired Couples Costumes

The 1990s were a roller coaster ride of memorable pop culture trends. Colorful characters abounded in music, movies, television, video games, politics, and beyond. It's a period rich with fodder for hilarious Halloween costumes, including no shortage of witty get-ups for couples to don as a team. Twosomes making the rounds at retro or 1990s-themed Halloween parties can easily liven up the scene in period-perfect couples costumes.
1
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love
Kurt Cobain and Courtney LoveGeneric "grunge dude" and "riot girl" costumes are common, so up the ante by portraying rocker couple Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. The tumultuous relationship between the former Nirvana front man and the equally iconic Hole front woman made almost as many waves as their music.

Straggly chin-length bleach-blonde hair and big, Jackie-O sunglasses are hallmarks of the Kurt Cobain look. Ripped jeans and Converse sneakers are also a must. Complete the look by layering a loose, grey-green cardigan over a T-shirt depicting an underground rock band. For Courtney, bright red lipstick, splotchy eyeliner, and unkempt blond hair are the hallmarks, rounded out by a vintage-style baby-doll dress over tattered fishnet stockings.

2
Bill and Hillary Clinton
There is hardly a political pairing more representative of the 1990s than President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton, who dominated political news from 1993 to 2001. Rubber masks of their iconic mugs and hairdos are widely available. As for clothing, Hillary has long been famous for her pantsuits. Any conservative suit with a blue or red tie works for Bill. An American flag lapel pin is a nice finishing touch.

3
Ross Geller and Rachel Green
No TV couple won more hearts in the 1990s than the on-again, off-again Rachel Green and Ross Geller from the TV show "Friends." The immensely popular sitcom ran from 1994 to 2004 and "the Rachel," a trendy hairstyle inspired by Jennifer Aniston's character, still lives on. Portraying the pair makes for a nostalgic bull's-eye.

Ross and Rachel Costume Ideas
A wig of layered, mid-length sandy blonde hair with long, face-encircling bangs depicts "the Rachel." For clothing, blue denim overalls over a white T-shirt evokes the memorable outfit Rachel often wore. For Ross, a solid-colored or striped long-sleeved V-neck shirt or sweater, loose-fitting jeans, and brown hair conservatively up-turned in front with hair gel reflects a spot-on portrayal of the character.

4
Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling

The iconic image of Hannibal Lecter in a straitjacket and face mask strapped to a dolly is one of the most frighteningly recognizable images in Hollywood film history, let alone films of the 1990s. The fact that Lecter, star of the 1991 movie "The Silence of the Lambs," was a cold-blooded cannibal makes him a particularly well-suited choice for Halloween. Throw his female counterpart, FBI Agent Clarice Starling, into the mix, and you have a perfectly chilling couple.
