6 of the Most Adorable Halloween Costumes for Kids

You don't have to be a kid to get into the Halloween spirit, but something about a child in costume is irresistibly adorable. When it comes to choosing kids' costumes, it's important to find outfits that they like and that fit comfortably, even though it is tempting to simply choose whatever looks the cutest. Thankfully, it's easy to find a costume that is incredibly cute and appropriate for kids, the best of both worlds.

Food-Inspired Kids' Costumes

Some people communicate their love for a child by declaring that they want to "eat them up." It sounds a little strange, but there is something delicious about a baby dressed up as a tasty treat.
1
Sushi
SushiA sushi costume is the perfect choice for a baby or toddler. Parents can buy or make a white onesie with a large raw fish appliqué. Wrap a dark green belt around the waist to represent seaweed, and add a cap decorated with green and pink flowers, a nod to the wasabi and ginger served alongside those yummy rolls.

2
Popcorn Tot
This one is so cute that Mom and Dad just might pop. School-age kids look precious in a ready-madepopcorn costume, with butter-yellow kernels surrounding the head, and the body encased in the "bag." It's easy to make a homemade version for an infant. Dress the baby in a red-and-white striped onesie, and glue some real popcorn to a yellow beanie. The parent carrying the baby or accompanying the child can wear a white button-up shirt and red bowtie for a matching movie usher costume.

3
Lovable Lobster
Animal-Inspired Kids' Costumes
Dressing as a favorite animal is a great way to get kids excited about costumes. There are all kinds of fuzzy, furry, and (most importantly) adorable options available.

A lobster costume is an adorable option for kids who love everything under the sea. Parents can purchase a full-body lobster costume complete with claws and booties. It's also easy to make one by dressing the child in red and using matching felt to create claws and a hat. Attach table tennis balls to chenille wires, and affix them to the hat for lolling lobster eyeballs. And what should the accompanying parent's costume be? A chef, of course. If your little lobster is small enough, carry her around in a saucepot.

4
Silly Skunk
Skunks may not win any prizes for odor, but they sure are cute with their black-and-white tuxedo pelts. Dressing a young child in a furry skunk costume with a big fluffy tail and hood is a cute, cozy solution for those who celebrate Halloween in colder climates. Turn this into a Pepé Le Pew costume by adding a red bowtie and a nosegay of crimson roses.

5
Cookie Monster

Character-Inspired Kids' Costumes

Taking inspiration from popular TV, movie, or book characters is another way to make sure kids love their costumes. There are countless getups inspired by pop culture, but a few are too cute to ignore.

If your little one is a real cookie monster, then dress him up as the zany, sweets-obsessed character from "Sesame Street." The furry blue Cookie Monster costume is unmistakable, evoking nostalgia for parents and giving grown-ups a perfect excuse to bake cookies. A last-minute Cookie Monster costume is easy to throw together. Simply dress the child in solid blue feet pajamas, and glue two table tennis balls to the hood for eyes.

6
Max
"Where the Wild Things Are" has captured the imaginations of kids everywhere. A Max costume, which consists of white pajamas with ears, whiskers, and a crown, has the added bonus of being comfortable to wear and easy to make. If this getup is snuggly enough, parents may even find kids dressing as Max for bedtime every night.
